British-American power unit ShadowKeep, who have already carved a name for themselves with two outstanding albums, Corruption within and A chaos theory, have signed with Dutch label Melissa Records.
Over the course of the last few years, the band formed by guitarists Chris Allen and Nikki Robson have had to deal with several setbacks. Allen and Robson have never, however, erred in their determination to continue what, in our here-today-gone-tomorrow music culture, essentially is an exceptional musical endeavour: to create dynamic, technical powermetal with melodies that stick in the mind. Metal built to last, so to speak.

On their forthcoming third album The hourglass effect, an apocalyptic concept piece based on lyrics by new vocalist Richie Wicks, ShadowKeep have truly perfected their craft: blistering rhythm guitars and dual leads, soaring vocals, razor-sharp arrangements and a stunning production from Threshold-guitarist Karl Groom make for a fittingly aggressive yet sophisticated album that has all the trademarks of a future classic. The hourglass effect is set for a late 2008/early 2009 release by Melissa Records, based in The Netherlands and known for their dedication to traditional US-metal. Earlier releases include Mindfire by Beyond Fallen, Evolution bound by Ancient Creation and Monuments by Seventh Calling.

ShadowKeep have already been confirmed to play at the second installment of Mario?s Metal Meeting in club 013, Tilburg, The Netherlands on November 9, 2008. Other bands on the bill include Vicious Rumors, Wolf and Arctic Flame.

The European release date for The hourglass effect, the long-awaited new album from British-American power metallers ShadowKeep, has been set for 21 November 2008. 24 November for UK/Ireland. After inking a new recording deal with Dutch label Melissa Records, the five-piece band centered around guitar duo Nikki Robson and Chris Allen is ready to roll again.

An apocalyptic concept piece based on lyrics by new vocalist Richie Wicks, The hourglass effect holds all the trademarks of the two previous albums and self-financed EP that earned ShadowKeep praise from the metal press the world over. Tightly written, aggressive power metal that merges a high standard of technical playing with melodies that stick in the mind ? that?s what ShadowKeep are all about. The impressive production to match comes courtesy of Threshold-mastermind Karl Groom, who already produced the band?s first three efforts.

Nach etlichen Durchläufen von The hourglass effect - der neue Mix auf dem Promo ist messerscharf - haut mich das Album noch immer glattweg um! Das ist ein lupenreiner US-Metalklassiker im Stile von Fifth Angel, Leatherwolf, altem Vicious Rumors und Sanctuary. Und ja, ein bisserl 'The lady wore black' ist auch mit drin. Übrigens erinnert das ruhige Anfangsriff von 'ShadowKeep' an das von Chastains 'Angel of mercy'. Bin ich erst jetzt drauf gekommen, es wollte mir partout nicht einfallen.

Ehrlich, ich freue mich schon auf die Reaktionen der breiten US-Fraktion hier (Lynott, SMMichael und Helle wissen schon dass das Ding killt). Es hat tatsächlich geklappt mit dem Deal und das kann ich immer noch nicht fassen. Hoffentlich bringt es die Band ein gutes Stück weiter, denn das haben sie mehr als verdient und dazu ist das Ganze gedacht.

Wer Sonntag den 9. November noch nichts vorhat und ShadowKeep in der neuen Inkarnation begutachten möchte, der kann das gerne tun im 013, Tilburg, am zweiten Mario's Metal Mania-Festival. Ist eine Woche vorm dem 11. KIT, also quasi zum warmbangen.

Das Gummihämmerchen lassen wir mal ausser Betracht.
Rock Hard? Weiss nicht, mal schauen, man könnte da durchaus die Klasse des Albums erkennen und zumindest die kristallklare Karl Groom-Produktion loben.
Im Heavy dürfte eine gute Plazierung drin sein, die Pole Position (Nordpol) von Helstar im aktuellen Heft ist ja schon super. Und die Platte hat, auch objektiv betrachtet, weit weniger zwingende Melodien und Hooklines als The hourglass effect.

Wie gesagt: ich bin gespannt auf die Reaktionen hier. Promos sind raus. Zu allem Überfluss möchte ich nochmal betonen dass nicht ich das Label führe. Ich habe mich für ShadowKeep ins Zeug gelegt, weil ich die Musik liebe und die Band dermassen vom Pech verfolgt wurde, dass einfach etwas geschehen musste. Dazu ist MR-Chef Pim ein obersympathischer Kerl der sich ernsthaft darum bemüht, etwas Gutes herauszubringen.
ShadowKeep ist eine Truppe die mich ganz zu überzeugen vermag, wie von den jüngeren Bands z.B. Crescent Shield das tun. Es gibt nichts zu meckern, nichts an dem Material, Gesang oder der Produktion auszusetzen. The hourglass effect ist genau das was es sein soll: grosses US-Metalkino, wenn auch zu 4/5tel von Briten inszeniert.
