Pardon me, englisch ;-)

I think that the 25? for a 2LP Die Hard is well high but not insolent. The 13? p/p is caused by the location of the label in chile...

a high price but comprehensible...

Actually I would have went nuts for this piece of musical art but then...I already know all of the songs somehow and spending 25 Euros for a NEW vinyl would be stupid in my situation...so I skip this one with a little tear in my eye and concentrate on other things...

The biggest soap opera this release... I blame Albert for this situation and his desire to be uber-kvlt and have a release from the most unknown and unapproachable label on earth. Well, here's the logical result...

Well, it's not like this was Emissary's first release ever. Before "Magick With Tears", they already put out a Split CD with The Gates Of Slumber and Spiritus Mortis, for example, which surely didn't turn into a travesty like this. So how should he have known that Emissary does rather fine work for TGOS and SM, but fucks things up big time for RB?

Besides, I think the main reason why he chose to have this record released through a Chilenean label is not to have an "uber-kvlt" release, but to have his songs availible in parts of the eart where RB aren't very well known yet and where they don't have that many fans. The LP only contains old demo recordings of the songs from the debut, so the initial idea was to put 'em out through a South American label and hence make RB's music easier availible for the South American fans, who so far could only get 'em as expensive exports. If everything had worked out fine, it would have been the Europeans this time, who'd have to order from overseas, not the fans in South America.

And, on a sidenote, I don't think that Emissary were the most obscure and unapproachable label in the world at all UNTIL they got all the money for pre-order. I HARDLY EVER heard from anyone who had problems ordering the SM/TGOS split, for example, and I NEVER heard from anyone who didn't get his copy at all in the end...

I know Albert & Peter for more than 5 years now and in that time we put out three of their songs on vinyl through Metal Coven and they've always been really cool, down-to-earth and supportive to us. I think I know quite a bit how much this fucked-up release bugs them and I can say quite assured that this is neither what the band wanted nor is it the band's fault at all. All they did is trusted a guy who worked with two befriended bands before and send him the layout and mastertapes two years ago. Being located in Finland, they can hardly do more now than trying to reach Patricio via email over and over again and urge him to either get the record out or give his customers back their money...

I really don't know how anyone in his right mind can blame the band for the whole fiasco and not the label. But then again it seems to me as if trashin' RB these days is almost as cool as it was to like 'em three years ago, so maybe it's just more fun to blame Albert for this mess and not Patricio...

I'd be the first to agree with you, if it wasnt for the following points:

I remember reading on Hellride the prequel to the drama when Albert was wondering to whom to license the vinyl and people urging him to choose another label. There must have been plenty of well-known European labels willing to put this out in a heartbeat.

I dont buy the idea Albert chose Emissary so to promote the band in South America. By the time this release was negotiated the end of RB was announced. It was clearly a post-humous release for the die-hard fans, not a promotional release to hook new fans on already defunct band. Besides, with prices of 25 EUR plus shipping it definitely is NOT a release for the masses, least for the poor South American fans! I think the sole fact that there is only one South American fan on hellride who preordered the vinyl among the hundreds of European, US, Australian fans proves my theory.

I dont know how successful Emissary's first release was. I do remember Karl saying on Miskatonic that they were definitely not happy and will never work with Emissary again, so I gather it wasnt so flawless... Anyway, their first release was a "Best of" CD with only two exclusive songs, while RB vinyl was entirely never published material which was given exclusively to them. So it was no surprise everything presold like fire even at 20-25 EUR a pop.

Patricio probably ended up with 10,000 EUR in his paypal account. 10,000 EUR in his part of the world probably equals to a 10-year salary, so its no big surprise he promptly disappeared on an "endless holidays". I blame him too of course, but I can also understand the temptation this situation could have been for a person in his stature. So in the end I do blame Albert on equal note. When you know that 19 out of every 20 customers will be from Europe, you should look for European label, and not outsource to South America. You can give a South American label a license if you want to cover that part of the world, but your priority would be Europe.

Anyhow, to wrap it up, I also never understood how people in their right state of mind can blame a band like Tales of Medusa for recording and giving their music for free, but as you know there are quite plenty of such people. so to each their own I guess. Thanks for the intelligent and civilized conversation here and over at the corroseum by the way, appreciated.
