Möchten Sie, Herr Kohsiek, für nicht- bzw. ex-RH-Leser nicht etwas zitieren aus besagtem Beurteilungsdokument?

Dies ist gewissermaßen die ?Supergroup? des US-Undergrounds, denn die beteiligten Musiker standen und stehen unter anderem bei Syris, Winterkill, Slauter Xstroyes, Spirit Web oder Twelfth Gate in Lohn und Brot. Das Debüt des Quintetts um Sänger Scott Huffman und Basser Brent Sullivan reicht qualitativ zum Glück locker an genannte Helden heran, übertrifft einige sogar noch. Großer Unterschied zu jenen ist allerdings die Tatsache, dass MINDWARP CHAMBER nen festen Keyboarder an Bord hat, was aber nicht mit einer Verwässerung des noch immer reinmetallischen Sounds einhergeht. Twilight Kingdom treffen auf Spirit Web, so in etwa kann man die musikalische Ausrichtung beschreiben. Überragend.

Ein neuer Track, 7 Minuten und 27 Sekunden lang, ist online auf http://www.myspace.com/mindwarpchambermusic
Und Überraschung: 'On the mend' tönt ganz anders im Vergleich zum Material von 'Delusional reality'. Der Prog-mit-Melodie-Anteil hat entscheidend zugenommen, auch ist bei diesem vertrackten Song eine Sängerin prominent beteiligt. Ausserdem wurde ein schickes Keys-/Synth-Solo eingebaut.

Dennoch fesselt die Musik nach wie vor, technisch/vokal ist es meilenweit über den Durchschnitt und alleine die typischen Melodien der MW-Machart sucht man öfters anderswo vergeblich (der Refrain ist erhaben). Bereits das kurze klassisch-folkige Akustik-Intro lässt aufhorchen. Der 'MWC-Sampler' der zudem online ist bietet mehr neues Material, wirkt aber wegen dem Patchwork von Schnipseln wie ein überproggtes Durcheinander (und deswegen kontraproduktiv).

Die Sängerin hört auf den Namen Kristin Joy Elane Gustafson-Walsh.

Wow. Das hört sich echt really gut an. Und hat tasächlich nicht mehr viel mit dem Material des Debüts gemeinsam. Aber trotzdem:

Autsch, ich mochte bei MINDWARP CHAMBER gerade die ungewohnte Kombination aus progressiven Sounds und ruppig-thrashigen Momenten. DIe neue Ausrichtung sagt mir da deutlich weniger zu (auch wenn es natürlich gut gemacht ist). Schade.

They are having a show near Chicago on June 4th, which I will most probably attend. I will let you guys know how it was if I do. When I saw them in Chicago opening for Slauter Xstroyes, they were amazing.

BTW I think that the second Syris was an excellent CD. And I like the Spirit Web as well.

Metalized, I'm looking forward to your report of the Mindwarp Chamber gig, if you're going. I've followed the various members from Slauter Xtroyes and Winterkill onwards through the Syris and Spirit Web episodes.Great songwriters, brilliant musicians. The Spirit Web debut I regard as a bit of a classic: no fillers, all killers.
Slauter Xtroyes will play the Headbangers Open Air in Germany in July this year, so you can imagine my impatience for these two months to pass!

2 months just became 10... But it is worth the wait. Slauter Xstroyes will give one of the best shows EVER. At least it was for me in Chicago! ;-)

'Supernova': der Titel ist Programm. Hier ist ein US-Progpower-Werk der Sonderklasse entstanden, ich komme aus dem staunen nicht mehr raus. Wenn ein Album mit einer stilistischen Verbeugung vor The Who anfängt und dann ausschliesslich brillant arrangierte Filigrankompositionen mit grossen Melodien und edlen Scott Huffman-Vokalen folgen, dann weiss man: da ist er, der Jahreslistenkandidat.
'On the mend' haut mich immer aufs neue um. Ausserdem bin ich froh, mein handsigniertes Exemplar vorbestellt zu haben. Obwohl ich sonst nicht der Autogrammfanatiker bin, freut es mich, jetzt ein Kritzeldingens von Scott Huffman zu besitzen.
Für alle Proggies: 'Supernova' kaufen = Mindwarp Chamber worshippen.
