News from Darkest Era, via Metal Blade:

"It is with great pleasure that we announce we have finished work on our debut album; to be titled The Last Caress of Light. 'The album is a work of dark, stormy, epic heavy metal that we are proud to release upon the world. Chris Fielding did a fantastic job in capturing the Celtic atmosphere of our songs while bringing out our heavy metal influences from bands like Warlord. We are very excited about it," comments vocalist Krum.
Guitarist Sarah Wieghell adds: "It has been an incredible experience recording our debut album for Metal Blade, the songs came out better than even we were expecting. I think we've made a really strong record to be proud of, I can't wait for people to hear it!"

In the coming weeks, Metal Blade Records will release more info on Darkest Era's debut release The Last Caress of Light, including street date, track listing, cover art and song premiers.

""DARKEST ERA reveals front art for Metal Blade debut 'The Last Caress Of Light'! Tracklisting and release date announced!
DARKEST ERA, the heavy metal band based in Northern Ireland and one of Metal Blade's newest additions to its artist roster, have recently completed work on their forthcoming album titled The Last Caress of Light.

The release date for The Last Caress of Light has now been set for February 11/14, 2011 in Europe and February 15 in North America!

Comments the band on the artwork and album title: "The title is taken from the closing song on the album. There are a number of different themes running through the record; "The Last Caress of Light" represents the turning of the tide, the fragile line between hope and despair, and the battle of strength against weakness.

The artwork was done highly renowned metal cover artist Paul McCarroll. He based the concept around the opening line of the opening song, and the image depicts the Morrigan in her transition between goddess of war and the serpent form she took when she attacked Cú Chulainn, the mythical Irish warrior. The story is allegorical of the other, more personal themes explored on the album. Paul did a great job in creating something which both compliments the conceptual vision for the album, and that looks totally killer!""

I'm really looking forward to this one, this years Darkest Era three track Demo is still among my favourite 2010 releases.
I really love the epic and dark atmosphere as well as the brilliant lyrics full of celtic mythology. The cover looks amazing.
Wish they had a better label to put this one out, but well...what can you do?

I have three or four spins so far and yes, I'm enjoying the record. Especially the last two songs 'Poem To The Gael/The Last Caress...' and the well-known 'The Morrigan'. As of now I'd say that it meets my expectations.
