Just an update that I have added a couple of topics to our forum (www.othyrworld.com/forum) which may be of interest to some of you. One is to guage interest in getting the Sacred Blade demos officially released, and the second is regarding a possible vinyl release of the Othyrworld album.

Cheers.

Well Jeff, if you'd be able to get the Sacred Blade-demos released through your own label, I can finally put my Reborn Classics-copy of 'Seven moonz of Xercez' to rest (it's one of a few bootlegs I own). In a better world, songs like 'IC eyes' and 'Cathedral forest' would have been released officially years ago, and today rightly stand alongside the classic 'Of the sun + moon'- and Othyrworld-albums.

As for a vinyl version of 'Beyond into the night of day', I guess there would be lots of interest in that, since there's so many people still collecting, even younger fans. I'd rather you would produce an EP or something with all new material, but then, that's not just been my wish for a long, long time...

Oh hell, let me bother you with the million dollar question: do you perhaps have a few new songs sketched out and if so, can you tell us something about them?
:)

You and many others, which is why it may not be viable to release the demos officially, especially with the time and money it would take to restore and package these properly.

The next release will be a full album, but there is still a lot of time and a LOT of money needed to get that project completed. As for new material, that depends on what you call new - we demoed a lot of material that has not been released as final productions, does that even count as new anymore?

Oh hell, let me bother you with the million dollar question: do you perhaps have a few new songs sketched out and if so, can you tell us something about them?

The last time I counted, I estimated that I had come up with at least one new song every month since 1978 - so even leaving out the songs that have been demoed in the past, there are a few you haven't heard before. :)

Unfortunately, the last time I went discussing new songs/album plans I had a bootleg show up, which not only put an end to over two decades and tens of thousands of dollars worth of work, but also made an official release of that material much less likely. As much as I would love to share my plans with everyone, I simply can't afford to do so any more.

Those are viable answers.
Let me make it clear, however, that I - and without a doubt many others - would buy any official Jeff Ulmer-cd-release, regardless of how many bootlegs of the same material are out there. The real thing remains, well, the real thing.

I remember a short interview you did with a guy from Germany's Rock Hard magazine somewhere in the mid-nineties and I jumped for joy, because we hadn't heard anything from you in years and there was no postal address to write to. In the meantime, I'd stumbled actoss the Reborn Classics-thing and must've played the demo material a zillion times. I thought 'Well, the man's still at it in one form or another; we'll see what happens.' Of course, it took you a while again to resurface after that. :)
There is a demand for the Sacred Blade-demo songs to be released officially - just put the word out and you will have that confirmed. I suspect the re-releases of OTS+M and BITNOD went fast, so you must at least have some indication that your efforts so far have been worthwhile.

As for new material - I seriously think that an EP with four or five songs would already cause a stir; plus you'd raise funds with that. Judging from the new stuff on the Othyrworld album, there's no doubt that you have the potential to create further classics.

If only that were true...

With the competition from free downloads, selling CDs is a lot bigger challenge these days. That there are still copies of a 2000 unit limited edition run available 7 years after its release should tell you something. At least no one can accuse me of being in this for the money...

:P

No one has ever accused me of being the fastest when it comes to doing anything.

Most of the work on the new album is being done in my head, as I'm still working on the studio, and most of the work that was already done is now residing on a dead hard drive in need of (possible) recovery. I chose an inopportune time to relegate its backup to other tasks... oh well, winter's coming and I'll be wanting to spend as much time warming up over hot tubes as possible. :)

There is now a Sacred Blade MySpace page with four songs from Of the Sun + Moon, friends are welcome. There may be a little surprise for all of you around Christmas if plans pan out, so check the page around then...
