"Stolen" from the Perpetual Motion-Board - really, really funny:
2029 - an interesting year in metal.
Metallica released their 27th CD called re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-reload. 65 year old drummer Lars Ulrich promised the old fans that they would be returning to full on thrash on the next disk but they felt that they had some more experimental jazz music still left to pursue on the current CD. You may recall that Metallica dropped all forms of electrical instruments in 2018 on the Metallica plays Jazz World tour. Lars promised the fans the band would be playing complex thrash. Of course we had heard it all before.
Holding the flag of true metal flying high, Manowar released their 10th album. Having never been the most prolific of bands, Manowar stepped up to the plate once again to show how to Rock, Drink and Fuck! Band leader, Joey Demaio, now totally deaf, said Manowar will still be kicking your ass in 20 years time when they release their next CD!
2029 saw a resurgence in true power metal as long lost heroes Hammerfall returned to the fray once again for a reunion tour. Some of you may recall that Heavy metal went through a decade of depression from 2010-2020 when the overload of power metal bands resulted in the creation of a new metal genre invented in 2011 called "air metal". Air Metal involved no guitars but just people headbanging to air and pretending to play their records whilst listening to silence.
In the field of progressive metal, The stalwarts, Dream Theater, had long since morphed into a lounge band but decided at one more attempt at creating Images & Words. Fans were of course devided on the resultant album discussing in great depth on hypernet communities at length as to the merits of the album. What more would you expect of DT fans? Speaking of online communities with the adcent of the Hypernet, bands no longer released music in cd format in shops. music was only available online and in all formats. New formats in music such as streamcasting allowed for music to be played on demand to homes around the world at a touch of a button. It was considered old fashioned to keep music collections. People stored all their music in hi tech devices called Orbitron drives which allowed for Multi-Terabyte storage of data in bedroom walls and storage spaces. These drives could also be accessed remotely allowing an individual to have access to their music collection at all times through a head piece where ever they may have been within a 100 mile radius of the base unit.
As with all forms of music, there are periods where musical genres have their day and Metal became resurgent once again when Hammerfall released their 10th album after a 20 year hiatus. Some of you may recall the original resurgence created by Hammerfall in 1997 when they released their Glory for the brave opus. Some of you may also remember the last Hammerfall album in 2009 called "The Final Hammer to fall" and the legendary tour that followed. the new CD called "Return of the Hammer" saw a special 5DVD release. 1 of the DVDs could be played on the new Hologram player that was released this year for commercial sale. The Hologram player enabled the viewer to see the band perform the songs on a specially created 3-d holo-room that gave the listener the in-concert feeling as he listened to the songs. A further feature that came with this release was that the listener could halt the player at anytime and ask Oscar or Joacim in the holo-room some questions or whatever the hell he wanted and they would answer his questions. Hammerfall and true metal fans could also pretend they were Joacim or Oscar by taking their mic or guitar and taking over vocals or guitars whilst not looking out of place.
With the resurgence of metal in 2029, many smaller bands started to spring up on the coat tails of Hammerfall's return. However the power and true metal community was soon diluted with far too many bands once again. A sense of Deja Vu was once again present as too many comebacks were made by bands that should have known better. This phenomena was more or less similar to the time of 2004-2005 when the number of true power metal bands infesting the scene, caused many fans to become sick of the genre and in the end resulted in the final implosion of the scene in 2009 after the invention of air metal.
2029 saw many great comebacks however even though the members of these bands were pushing 70! Gamma Ray returned but were unfortunately a one man show as Kai played an acoutsic set of old time Gamma Ray classics. Bal sagoth - the british legends of sci-fi dark metal released their 35th album called "The might of the dark raven release the cosmic energies of fate - part 23". Iron Maiden having released their final CD in 2008 returned for a one off reunion gig at the Playstation 10 stadium in London. Dave Mustaine went on a solo acoustic tour playing new material off his 7th solo effort. Morbid Angel finally reached their Z album, it was called "Zeroes or noughts". Of course they would now have to start all over again back at "A" again. One wondered whether they had the heart anymore? AC/DC released their 24th CD and it featured a bespectacled Angus on the cover. The sound was the same as the preceding 23.
Max Schaffer (son of Jon) leader of the band, Molten Sun, released his bands new album of old time heavy metal influenced by his father's band. His father Jon was said to be proud that his son was keeping the flag for galloping true metal flying high. Jon said that if Molten Sun left Century Blast records for the next record they could crack America as Century Blast was not giving them any real support. Nothing much had changed since the early part of the century then.
well that was 2029, let's hope 2030 is better. Let the metal flow.....
For all the words unspoken, for all the deeds undone,
for all our shattered dreams, for all the songs unsung,
for all the lines unwritten and all our broken hearts,
for all our wounds still bleeding and all our kingdoms come.
